South Padre Island: Week Four

Every time we go away, I am amazed at how fast our first month flies by. I can't believe that we have been here 4 weeks already!

Again, we had a beautiful, sunny week. Lots of time on the beach and by the pool.

The sunsets off our back balcony are so gorgeous! The colors are unreal:

Sea Turtle Rescue Center - Part One

For this weeks field trip Friday, we went to the Sea Turtle Rescue Center. It was windy out, so the turtles were covered and weren't able to come out from their tanks. We only were able to see 1 turtle in his tank, through a window in the tank. We are planning on going back next week so we can see more turtles.

This turtle is Gary. He was very friendly and was at the window the whole time we were there:

South Padre Island: Week Three

What a difference a week makes! Last week was cold, this week was beautiful. Almost everyday was sunny and all the days were warm even if there were clouds. Perfect weather for lots of swimming, tennis and walks.

Friday was our lighthouse adventure:

On Friday we also went for a walk around downtown Port Isabel and the boardwalk.

There are "pirates" all over the boardwalk. Zack posed with almost all of them :)

We've seen 2 dolphins and lots and lots of huge pelicans.

Pirate Zack!

After the lighthouse and our walk, we stopped for ice cream:

Out for supper at Blackbeards. Michael was so happy to find some crab:

Lots of swimming:

And tennis:

One day we even walked to the end of the island. On the other side of the water is Mexico.

Port Isabel Lighthouse

The boys and I decided that every Friday would be "field trip Friday". So this past Friday our field trip was to the Port Isabel Lighthouse.
The lighthouse was built in 1851. It's well maintained and it was a a great view at the top!

The stairs going up to the top had small grates and was very steep.

At the top!

On our way home we stopped at the South Padre Island sign for a picture. This sign is the first thing you see as you cross the bridge onto the island:
