On Sunday, December 9th my Opa Hermann passed away. He was a wonderful Opa and we will miss him dearly.
At the memorial all of us grandchildren gave a tribute to Opa. Here is my tribute to my Opa:
My Opa Hermann was a wonderful Opa. He always
had time for us grandchildren and we all enjoyed being with him. He played with
Jordan & me on the farm when we were little, loved to tell us stories about
when he was young and he was always interested in what we were doing.
Opa was a welder by trade, but he was really an artist. He
designed and welded countless beautiful projects. Among my favorite are the
headboard and footboard he made for our bed, the bench that sits in my front
hall and a custom wrought iron gate in our yard.
After we moved back to Edmonton, I would take the boys to
Oma & Opas each week and they would play in the basement together. Opa
loved to play hockey, basketball, trains, trucks, ride bikes, whatever the boys
wanted to do, he was right in there with them.
Not only was Opa a great Opa to me, he was also a great
Opapa to my boys.
Michael and I also prepared a slide show with pictures of Opa. Here are a few of my favorites:
We are all going to miss Opa so much, but are so happy knowing that we will see each other in heaven one day.
